Why Sustainably sourced tea matters
Tea is the second-most consumed beverage in the world after water – but challenges like soil erosion and widespread reliance on dangerous pesticides make tea farming a difficult way of life. In addition, many tea growing regions are undergoing changes in weather patterns caused by climate change. This causes stress to the tea bushes and increases the likelihood of reduced yields and incomes for the farmers.
The Rainforest Alliance is a growing network of people who are inspired and committed to working together to conserve biodiversity and help ensure sustainable livelihoods for farm workers, their families and farming communities. Through creative collaboration, the Rainforest Alliance aims to rebalance the planet by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour.
Our work is bringing real, measurable benefits to forests, communities, and wildlife around the world. Farms become more sustainable over time, as producers progressively improve soil and water management, worker health and safety agronomic practices, social conditions and livelihoods, and conservation-friendly farming. Only the farms that meet comprehensive standards for sustainability earn the Rainforest Alliance Certified TM seal.
